It’s been a busy time for us here at Project Jonah. Apart from keeping our eyes and ears open for any reports of strandings, we’ve been traveling all over New Zealand talking to the great and the good about marine mammal welfare and how to cope with stranding situations. So far our Project Jonah team have trained volunteers in Auckland, Northland, the Coromandel, the Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Nelson as part of our national whale rescue roadshow.

“If a whale or dolphin stranded on a beach near you - would you know what to do?’’ says Kimberly Muncaster, Project Jonah CEO. ‘’Successful rescue depends on properly trained volunteers. And you can become one with Project Jonah’s help”.

“Through our whale rescue course we can give Kiwis the skills and confidence to take the right steps and provide First Aid to these animals in their most desperate hour of need,” says Kimberly.

Thanks to the support of Interislander our team has just completed training in Nelson, a known hotspot for strandings in New Zealand.  Further training dates are planned for Great Barrier Island, the East Coast and Auckland in the New Year.

Saturday 17 January 2009 | Great Barrier Island
Saturday 24 January 2009 | Mahia Beach, Hawkes Bay
Sunday 25 January 2009 | Napier
Saturday 14 February 2009 | Auckland
